Randy,
I know what you mean about being a little intimidated... after all, it is the brakes! But brakes are very easy to work on, especially if it just the pads. It is essentially a "snap together" type job, with just a couple bolts to take the caliper off.
A couple tips:
1. Get and use spray on brake cleaner- you can't use too much, and the brakes need to be really clean (dust gets between things and sets up the squeaky vibrations).
2. When you pull the caliper off, you don't want it to dangle by the line (if it breaks, you'll get brake fluid - which is very corrosive and will eat paint - all over). Have a small table, or chair or toolbox right next to you to set the caliper on. Don't use the fender, you can scratch it.
3. If you can get someone who has done it before to walk you through it, you'll find that it is so easy you'll be willing to take on bigger projects in no time (I do my own car and truck brakes, plus most minor (no machining needed) repairs.
It's easy, just take your time.
